The Jan. 27 Metro article about the last day of D.C. streetcars 50 years ago [?Clang! went the trolley?] mentioned the theory about a General Motors conspiracy to convert streetcar systems into bus lines. The theory�is questionable, but that?s another story. More interesting is the tale peculiar to Washington?s Capital Transit company.
