The definition of the racial category ?American Indian or Alaska Native? ? at least according to the federal government?s Standard Form 181, ?Ethnicity and Race Identification? ? is ?[a] person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America), and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.?
