Snow church opens in Germany, a century after villagers built predecessor as protest
MITTERFIRMIANSREUT, Germany ? A church built entirely of ice and snow has opened in Bavaria ? a century after villagers first built a snow church in an act of protest.
The church at Mitterfirmiansreut, near the Czech border, is more than 20 meters (65 feet) in length and boasts a tower. It?s made up of some 1,400 cubic meters (49,000 cubic feet) of snow.

Solyndra: Energy Dept. pushed firm to keep layoffs quiet until after midterms
The Obama administration, which gave the solar company Solyndra a half-billion-dollar loan to help create jobs, asked the company to delay announcing it would lay off workers until after the hotly contested November 2010 midterm elections that imperiled Democratic control of Congress, newly released e-mails show.

Muppet controversies: The year in review
Some of the year?s most controversial figures stand only a few feet tall.
The long-awaited revival of the Muppet franchise divided fans, former Muppeteers, the Academy and even political idealogists, who debated some very furry and very serious issues, like the notion that the entire film was communist propaganda. One group that wasn?t divided by the return of the Muppets? Critics. They gave the film a 97 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Famous untruth-teller Stephen Glass is in the news again, this time via a prolonged court fight to get himself admitted to the California bar. In any saga about Glass, the trick is to find the truth. Herewith nine truths:
1) With New Year?s Eve coming right up, Stephen Glass makes for excellent cocktail chatter. First, there?s a quest: Glass in 2002 sought admission to the New York Bar but later withdrew his application when it became clear that it would be rejected on moral fitness grounds. He moved to California and tried again, passing that state?s bar exam in 2007. Two years later, the California Committee of Bar Examiners turned down his application on moral grounds. Since then, some ups and downs: Glass appealed the committee?s decision and won; the committee appealed that decision and, again, Glass won; now the committee has asked for a review by the State Supreme Court, a review that has been granted and should take place in the near future.
