Completing a portrait

The Aug. 12 obituary of ?renowned Washington lobbyist? Howard G. Paster disappointed us and former colleagues at Hill and Knowlton who knew him as a talented and caring man. It failed to mention that Howard came to Hill and Knowlton decades after the company had ceased its representation of tobacco companies and that he rejected countless offers from clients (including countries) he thought unsuitable.

But most of all, it was Howard Paster the person who seemed ignored by the obituary. He was a guide, friend and mentor to almost everyone who worked for or with him, and he helped virtually every leader and progressive institution in town. As examples, he served as a trustee of the Tuskegee Institute and as head of the Little League Foundation. He was a gifted executive in all his endeavors.
