As I read the Aug. 16 Style article ?Museums? fine art of shielding masterpieces,? I thought about a recent afternoon my daughter and I spent in the National Gallery of Art.
As we wandered through the Chester Dale exhibit, we were astounded at the disrespectful manner of some of our fellow visitors. They let their children act as though they were at an amusement park. Flashbulbs went off in the dimly lighted rooms, disrupting quiet contemplation of the art.
We saw a young woman with her hand on a frame, posing for a picture.�As she knocked the artwork sideways, a nearby guard did nothing. My daughter and I told her that she should never touch a work in any museum.�
