The year 2011?s memorable faces: A postscript

The past year has been a busy one at BlogPost ? each month a new protest, Internet hoax or natural disaster.

But at the end of it all, there were certain faces we couldn?t get out of our head. During the past few weeks, we?ve tracked down those people to find out where they are now.

From the Occupy protests, we talked to Dorli Rainey, the 85-year-old woman who was pepper sprayed in Seattle, and Brandon Watts, the protester whose bloody head after a confrontation with police at Zuccotti Park made the front pages of many New York papers.

Winter, a grand time to see the Grand Canyon

We climbed out of the white Lincoln Navigator ready to be thrilled. The two-hour ride from the Red Rock country of Sedona was behind us, and the alien grandeur of the Grand Canyon was just yards ahead. It was early December and beyond chilly, but we had prepared for any weather eventuality. Or so we thought.

?Man Seeks God? by Eric Weiner

When Eric Weiner is hospitalized and thinks he might be dying (of what turns out to be gas), a nurse asks him ?Have you found your God yet?? Weiner, who, like me, grew up as a secular Jew, is hit with an epiphany. He hasn?t.

Upon regaining his health, Weiner, a former NPR correspondent, immerses himself in eight different faiths, a mere sampling of the 9,900 religions currently available. The eclectic pilgrimage results in ?Man Seeks God? in which he hopes to get in touch with his dormant spiritual side, for as he says, ?Good religion elevates us, makes us better people than we thought we were, than we thought possible.?

Megyn Kelly shows an admirable measure of restraint in the interview below, with now-famous Michele Bachmann ship-jumper Kent Sorenson. For those who weren?t riveted to the tweeting that erupted last night: Sorenson, an Iowa state senator, had signed on as Bachmann?s Iowa co-chair this year but jumped to the Ron Paul campaign last night. Plan your New Year?s Eve weekend: Redskins tailgate, Phil Ade

We know New Year?s Eve is the big to-do this weekend, and we?ve got you covered with an FAQ on what to do. But hey, we also have a list of other great events worth checking out as we say goodbye to 2011 and hello to 2012. See a few highlights here and then view the full list.

The Redskins season has been pretty awful for the most part, save for some promising performances by young players like linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and running back Roy Helu. But the tailgating at Dodge City has been great year-round. The bar has a projector and a grill full of sausages from 13th Street Meats. The team may let you down, but the tailgate won?t.
