I was saddened to see the Oct. 21 Metro photograph of Gen. James McPherson?s statue disrespected by one of the Occupy D.C. protesters [?Occupying Occupy D.C.?]. He deserves better. McPherson, a hero of Shiloh, Vicksburg and Atlanta, died far too young (35) in his service to save the Union in the war that ultimately led to the emancipation of millions of people. He played no small role in our nation?s constitutional rebirth.
