Metro?s missed maintenance

After reading Dana Hedgpeth?s Oct. 14 Metro article, ?Dulles rail?s cost over 3 years: $107 million,? my optimism regarding the new Dulles rail line is fading.�

The article noted the Silver Line and other costs, including employee pensions, that are projected by Metro. But there are more current issues, not mentioned in the article, that require attention, maintenance and money.��With the debts incurred from the new Silver Line, where will Metro find the money to make sure that its escalators and elevators are functioning regularly, particularly for its senior and disabled user? Isolated security incidents seem to be met only with quick news coverage and few long-term plans and little communication with Metro riders. Consistent delays due to track maintenance suggest that improvements are still needed on existing lines.
