My heart raced a bit when I saw the picture of the Evermay estate in the District on the Oct. 16 front page [?Unearthing the mysteries of Evermay?]. I was eager to read about this spectacular gem perched on its verdant hill, amid giant boxwood.
I was dismayed to learn only about the Belin family and nothing about the history of a house more than 200 years old. Instead, this reader was treated to the tale of a rather mundane, typical Washington family: diplomat, Hindenburg survivor (okay, not so typical), tax assessment problems, etc.
